Mattan Klein was born and raised in Jerusalem
He had studied at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, and had graduated with honors from the Berklee College of Music in Boston
In 2022 Mattan was headliner at the Cambridge England Jazz Festival, the main stage at Nisville Jazz Festival in Serbia, Klaipeda international Jazz Festival in Lithuania, and Summertime Jazz Festival TLV in Tel Aviv. Mattan is winner of the 1st prize in the 2018 international ‘7 Virtual Jazz Club Web Community Award’! He recently performed at the Tirana Albania International Jazz Festival 2019 and at the JEN Festival (Jazz Education Network) 2017 and 2020 in New Orleans .
His original compositions have also earned him awards such as the John Lennon songwriting contest, and the USA Songwriting competition.
He had received multiple scholarships from the Israeli Ministry of Culture, America-Israel Cultural Foundation, and the municipality of Jerusalem. He is also the Recipient of multiple ACUM Scholarships for emerging artists (Israeli Agency for Composers and Musicians).
Mattan had performed on stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, NJPAC, and more. He was recorded for SONY on the Artist Integrated sampling projects titled Sony Native instruments. He is also a recording artist for the Orange Tree Sampling Corporation.
He performs regularly with Israeli Songwriting heroes such as Miki Gavrielov, Alon Olearchik, Shlomo Gronich and more ...
Mattan had played at the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival multiple times, and at the Israel Festival in Jerusalem, collaborating with international virtuosos such as Nicola Stilo, Mirko Signorile and Rodrigo Ursaia.
In 2016 he was a featured soloist with the United Kingdom Jazz Flute Big Band, his music and arrangements were performed at the London Jazz Festival 2016. His critically acclaimed 2016 album ‘Sound Tracks’ was endorsed and distributed by Helicon Records, and so is his 2019 album, titled ’Wag the Mammoth in the China Store ‘.
Mattan's Quintet headlined the Tel Aviv International Jazz Festival in 2017 featuring vocalist Tammy Scheffer.
He is a gifted ensemble instructor and an original arranger, teaching and giving clinics and workshops across Israel, including the prestigious Thelma Yellin High School for Performing Arts. He is the music director and producer at the Hof Hasharon Regional Council.
Mattan was producer and artistic director at the Kfar Yona Jazz Festival 2021, and was featured as headliner at the 2021 International Red Sea Jazz Festival!
His album ‘The Long Run’ was released on January 2022 on the ‘Ubuntu Music’ label,
In 2022 Mattan joined forces with master drummer and composer Uria Mader.
They established the Funk-oriented Spice’n’Space ensemble, and began performing and recording original music, making waves on the Jazz scene, and signing with the London-based Ubuntu Music label.
Their album ‘The Funk Thing’ was released during the summer of 2023, and the band toured Europe including headlining the prestigious Klaipeda Jazz Festival, touring Lithuania, Germany, Italy, And Latvia.
